Lying below the orchards and vineyards of the Mount Lofty foothills, Adelaide is literally a city within a park: framed in wide green space filled with woodland walks, wild meadows and lush gardens. Adelaide’s broad, Mediterranean-style streets are dotted with colonial-era houses, historic churches and pretty public squares – but you may also wander into an outdoor circus or a pop-up food festival, surrounded by an expanding patchwork of funky street art. A short tram ride will take you to white sandy beaches where you can swim alongside dolphins in the waters of Gulf St Vincent, a sheltered inlet of the Indian Ocean.
